I'm sure everyone has heard about the writers strike that has been going on for the past few months. I thought it had been settled, but I guess not.
Gilbert Cates is the producer of the awards telecast and he is positive that the red carpet will roll out on the night of the Oscars awards show, which airs Feb. 24.
The writers and many celeberties, such as George Clooney and Angelina Jolie have threated to boycott the awards show.
It was said by a group of 30 award winning writers, producers, and actors, "Awards are nice, but we would rather have a fair contract for the writers."
The Acadamy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are holding an emergency meeting before the big night.
This could very much hurt them finacially. Last year almost 40 million people tuned in. This does not only concern the telecast finacially, but the publists, designers, hair and make-up, and even the near by hotels that people stay in while attending the show.
This is not the first time this has happened, in 1934 there were writers outside the show protesting. Then there was another boycott in 1988, but it had no affect on the show.
My question to you all is Do you think that the Oscars will suffer from this? Or do you think that in the next four weeks the strike will be settled and they will get there fair contract? Do you think that the actors, producers, and writers are being fair in boycotting the show?

The Oscars will definitely get hit in a negative way from this strike. The thing that will hit it the worse, is whether the actors boycot the Show. For that brings in the viewers. But what the actors are doing is a good strategy. They knew exactly what to do to get the Association's attention. At first I thought that they stretched it too far with the boycott, but now I am seeing the big picture. I am just not sure if they can solve everything in four weeks. I guess we will see everything layed out before us on the red carpet February 24th.
Jennifer-
I still can't get over the fact that they're all still going at it. I also thought it would be well over by now. Well with what happened to the golden globes, I dont see them making the same mistake twice and ruining chances of making money, advertisments and much much more! I dont see it happending, however, with everything going on with this, and in hollywood, i dont think I would be to suprised. The writers are not the ones at fault here. They along with the actors and everyone involved should stand up for what is right

The third time is a charm so maybe things will work out for the best but I honestly doubt it. This is a continuing feud with no end in sight. Boycotting might just be the key honestly. It has made miraculous changes in the past such as the bus boycott during the Civil Rights Movement. It is the non violent way to have your voice heard. I support it and hopefully the show will go on!
This is such a touchy situation. I think that this will have a negative effect on the Oscars. It will be interesting to see what happens with the actors as to whether or not they boycott the show as well. I don't think that the writers are at fault though. I hope that everything works out for the best. It has happened in the past and everything works out.
I think that the Oscars would be affected in a bad way because of the strike. Celebrities that threaten to boycott the awards can cause ratings to go down. I think that the writers, actors, and producers are being fair because they are the reason why the Oscars exist. The Oscars celebrates the works of writer, actors, and producers. So I hope that the writers' strike so they can get back to what they do best.
