The voting system on Super Tuesday may take longer than expected due to California and other states switching their system from paper ballots to touch screen ballots.
Five states used the touch screen ballots and voter experts say that this could be nearly impossible to count if it becomes a close race, which I think will definitly happen.
According to a report released by Common Cause and the Verified Voting Foundation "All polling places in New Jersey, Delaware and Georgia, as well as most in Tennessee and some in Arkansas, will use paperless touch-screen machines on Tuesday. These states were rated “high risk” for voting problems, two advocacy groups that have been critical of electronic voting."
As 24 states voted the election officials are in for a long night and could move into early Wednesday morning. Not to mention that there are 60,000 absentee votes that have began to fall apart at the fold lines.
Now serious problems are expected, but some states are expecting a higher turnout than usual.
With the absentee votes coming in at last minute, this too will cause delays.
I think that the paper ballot has worked for so long and why try and change it now.
Do you think that technology can sometimes have a negative affect or do you think that this could work? Is techonlogy sometime too "high tech?"

There are to many people in our society that are not accustomed to change. We like things the way that they are for a reason. I feel that this change in the ballot process is not a bad idea, but with the way that technology is it could cause a problem. Sometimes touch screens are very sensitive. By that I mean you could touch one thing and it be another. Like I said Americans are not fond of change so I do not think that many people will like this very much. What if the computers are down? I think that it will be easier for them to stick to paper ballots so they will not have to worry about technical problems.
After reading this, it's easier to use paper ballots than touch screen. Although change is good, most citizens might take some time getting use to touch screen. Computers are reliable until something unexpected happen which cause delays. I think that touch screen could work if you give some more time than just introducing around the time of the election. I think it will cause less problem like that.
I believe that the touch screen method could ultimately work if every state voted in the same manner. If a plan was implemented to automatically tally up the results for the candidate as each person touched the screen, chances for accuracy would be increased. The only problem I see is that sometimes the networks could become too crowded and lines become jammed. I'm fond of the paper vote myself! Technolgy can never be too high tech, we just have to have the patience to learn it.
Good piece,
I believe it may or may not work. I'm kinda on the fence with this one. America is always on the side of new technology and making things easier, which would make sense in getting the new touch screens. However, I understand the arguement of them not always being 100% accurate perhaps. And with dealing with presidential elections, you want to be as accurate as can be!
I enjoyed it!
