Poverty and where it stands today

Poverty has always been an issue in the world. Mostly in Africa, India, and East Asia. "The 2008 Global Monitoring Report, released ahead of the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and World Bank meetings in Washington this weekend, said strong economic growth in much of the developing world had contributed to the decline in global poverty."
Globally, about 1 billion people are living in poverty.
There has been some progress made, but what is in need right now is that the children are not getting primary education, good nutrition, or proper health care.
I just recently became a sponsor for a child in Ethiopia and with just a little money a month I will be helping him in so many ways.
It saddens me the amount of people living in poverty. I think the media should do a better job of making people aware of this problem. I think the media focus's a lot on the rich and famous, and the things they have, but we should be concerned about what we can do to help those in need, especially the children. Do you have any ideas on how to advertise this more, beside the commercials we have on television?

I agree with you that the media focus most of their coverage to how much money did these celebrities spent on a blouse or something stupid like that. Poverty is increasing a lot, and I don't understand why the media doesn't discuss more about this growing problem. I think there should be a non-profit organization decided to this problem and a PR team to get the word out to people.

I agree with you 100 percent. I think it is so sad how these children all over the world are living with nothing, while we see celebrities on TV buying $1000 things for their newborns. I also think it's great that you are sponsoring a child in Ethiopia. When i was younger, me and my sister used to donate money to Feed The Children, and it felt so great to be helping. Good Job!

The sad thing is that non profit organization don't bring the big dollars in ads and that is what pushes these type of mediums. I think we should see more ads during prime time, instead of what is Britney Spears doing now. I admire you taking a personal step to reach out to someone less fortunate.
